Why Domantas Sabonis gave up a lot of money.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Tuesday why the Sacramento Kings waived Domantas Sabonis.
Savonis signed a five-year, $216 million max contract this offseason. After averaging 19.1 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 7.3 assists, Savonis was named to the All-NBA team.
Savonis could have picked up various option money. However, he reportedly voluntarily waived those options. Instead of maxing out his options, he gave up a lot of money. 안전놀이터
According to ESPN, Savonis was hoping to free up salary cap space so the team could add depth. Sacramento made the playoffs for the first time in 17 years in 2022-2023, earning the No. 3 seed, but suffered an early playoff exit.
Savonis was an integral part of Sacramento’s rebound. The need for an unheralded assistant was also acute. Savonis made a small sacrifice by rejecting Sacramento’s offer of a fully guaranteed contract.
Sacramento added Sasha Bezenkov, Chris Duarte, and JaVale McGee with the remaining cap space.
