The Doosan Bears extended their winning streak with the help of foreign batsmen Brandon Waddell and Jose Rojas. The Kiwoom Heroes picked up where they left off the day before, self-destructing with costly errors.
Doosan defeated Kiwoom 11-4 in an away game at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday to move within one and a half games of the sixth-place KIA Tigers, whose game was canceled due to rain earlier in the day.
Brandon, who started, threw 115 pitches for six innings and seven runs (two earned) on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts to earn his sixth win of the season, breaking a streak that began with a four-inning, seven-run outing against the KT WIZ on April 17. He used an even mix of fastballs, sliders, and cutters to rattle hitters. At the plate, Heo Kyung-min went 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs and one run scored, while Rojas went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs.
Kiwoom snapped a two-game losing streak. Starting pitcher Jang Jae-young threw a career-high 102 pitches in his debut, allowing two runs on five hits and six walks with three strikeouts in five innings, but three errors – a throwing error and a wild pitch – gave Doosan the win.
Doosan took advantage of Jang Jae-young in the top of the first inning. Leadoff hitter Jung Soo-bin walked, Kim Jae-ho was hit by a pitch, and Rojas followed with a two-run double between left field and center field.
Kiwoom answered right back. In the bottom of the first inning, Kim Hye-sung crushed Brandon’s changeup and dropped it in front of the center fielder, and Ronnie Dawson stole second on a ball that hit the pitcher’s head and sailed over the shortstop. Hwijip Kim followed with a sacrifice fly to load the bases.
Mistakes by both teams kept the game close. In the bottom of the fifth, Kiwoom loaded the bases with back-to-back singles by Kim Hye-sung and Dawson and a walk by Kim Hwijip. Doosan second baseman Kang Seung-ho caught a grounder, but the ball slipped out of his hand and went over the shortstop’s head, allowing two runners to cross the plate.
Then, in the top of the sixth inning, right fielder Lim Byung-wook, who caught Kang Seung-ho’s hit, threw to third base to catch a runner at first base and went into the away dugout. This allowed the runner at third to advance to home and the runner at second to advance to third on a single by Heo Kyung-min, giving Doosan a 4-3 lead. 메이저사이트
In the top of the seventh, Rojas hit a long ball directly to the wall to score Jung Soo-bin, and in the next at-bat, Kim Hwijip took a fastball from reliever Hong Gun-hee and launched a one-run arch over the left field wall to make it 5-4.
Doosan added three more runs in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by Heo Kyung-min, a throwing error by Kiwoom second baseman Kim Hye-sung, and a throwing error by pitcher Ha Young-min. After scoring three more runs in the top of the ninth, Kim Myung-shin and Lee Young-ha shut down Kiwoom’s bats to end the game.
