It has been claimed that Wolverhampton Wanderers are likely to sell Hwang Hee-chan.

“According to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon, Hwang is set to leave Wolverhampton this summer, and Leeds United are unlikely to revive the interest they showed in him last year,” the UK’s Motley News reported on May 25 (KST).

Hwang joined Wolverhampton on loan from Leipzig in the 2021-22 season. He got off to a flying start. He came off the bench against Watford on his debut and scored his first goal for the club. As his confidence grew, he went on to score multiple goals against Newcastle United and a brace against Leeds United. He was named Wolverhampton’s Player of the Month for October, a clear sign of his quality.

His performances prompted Wolverhampton to sign him outright, keeping him at the club until 2026. Hwang repaid the club’s faith, scoring five goals and adding one assist in 30 appearances in his first season in the English Premier League (EPL). It was the second-highest goal total in Wolverhampton’s history and the highest EPL debut by a South Korean player.

This season has been a bit of a slow start. He started the season struggling for a starting spot and was often used as a substitute. In addition, he was injured before the World Cup and struggled to stay fit. After the World Cup, Hwang’s versatility has paid dividends, especially in Julen Lopetegui’s system.

Lopetegui utilized Hwang’s versatility to his advantage. Hwang often played as a left wing forward for his club, but he also played on the right for the national team. He has also played up front for Salzburg and Leipzig in the past. Lopetegui recognized Hwang’s value and used him to his advantage, often switching positions in the same game 토토사이트.

However, injuries kept hindering him. Just when things were going well, injuries would take him out of the lineup. Hwang Hee-chan has gone down with injuries three times this season. After returning from the injury, he was sidelined again just one game later. Fortunately, he returned in April and has been bouncing back and forth between starting and substituting for about a month, earning playing time every game. He even scored the winning goal against Everton last time out.

However, Wolverhampton’s financial woes have raised the possibility of a sale. According to Motriz News, “A possible transfer of Hwang Hee-chan could occur to balance the books as Wolverhampton faces Financial Fair Play (FFP) issues. Hwang is attracting interest from both EPL clubs and Italian clubs.”
