Eric Dier is not getting a lot of love on the field.
Alasdair Gold, a reporter for Football London, took to Twitter on Tuesday (April 10) to share his findings on a variety of questions from fans. Along with questions about Christian Romero, Brannon Johnson, Ryan Sessegnon, and others, Tottenham fans also asked about the situation with Dyer.
One fan asked, “Has Dyer failed to impress manager Enze Postecoglou? To which Gold responded, “I think it went in the wrong direction from the beginning. As far as I know, Dyer called to meet with chairman Daniel Levy. He was probably trying to make a move before the transfer window closed.”
“Dyer is keen to fight for his place under Postecoglou, but would have accepted a loan move to secure game time. Reports that a Burnley loan offer had arrived were dismissed by the club at the time.”
Tottenham reportedly only wanted to sell. Dyer is under contract until June 2024, so if he were to leave on loan, he would effectively be playing for another team for a year without receiving any transfer fee. “It didn’t make sense for Tottenham to loan him out for a few months, as he only had nine months left on his contract, so the only option was to sell,” Gold said.
It’s a difficult situation to sell. The departure of Davinson Sanchez to Galatasaray has thinned their defensive depth. Christian Romero and Micky van der Penn are the mainstays, but aside from Dyer, there is virtually no depth at center back. Ashley Phillips, who joined this summer, is an 18-year-old youngster.
There’s a chance that Dyer could start against Sheffield United. That’s because Romero, who is currently on international duty with Argentina, could be out with an injury. “If Romero is out for Sheffield, it will be interesting to see if Phillips is selected or if Dyer returns,” Gold said. 먹튀검증
“For Postecoglou, Dyer doesn’t fit the mold of a central defender. He lacks the pace to react to the ball. The experienced defender will have to prove himself if given the chance.”
At the start of the season, Dyer has certainly been shunned by Postecoglu. He was left out of the roster for all four league games after the opening day. Even in the English Football League Cup (EFL Cup) against Fulham, which featured a relatively rotated squad, Dyer’s name was nowhere to be found. Dyer will be looking to change his position after the September A-match break.
